SGMRD vs. Team Rock’Est (Dec. 10th, 2016)

It’s about time for a short recap of our last game against our French friends from Metz and Straßbourg, Team Rock’Est.

Recap:

We were able to roster 13 players, among them we had 2 novices and some returning players. We were also happy to welcome Chibi Chibster from the Stuttgart Valley Rollergirlz as Lineup Manager.
The game itself was intense and physical. Team Rock’Est was able to field jammers with really quick feet and amazing acceleration. However, SGMRD’s defensive walls held tight and forced the French jammers to recycle again and again or made them commit penalties and spend precious time at the penalty box. Team Rock’Est committed roughly twice as much penalties as SGMRD (42 against 22).

In the meantime, our jammer rotation of Duke Jukem, Bloodred Kelly, Mahatma Bronson and Psycho Crusher were able to get Lead Jammer status in 2/3 of the jams and could score constantly.
We quickly built up a nice lead until Team Rock’Est switched to playing more physical offense against our walls which briefly slowed us down.

Thanks to our experienced core team and our great bench staff we were able to adapt our game and keep the upper hand without loosing step.

Half Time had us in the lead with 99:49 and we never looked back. The second half continued just as the first with hard hits, artistic jamming and solid walls.

It was a wonderful and fair game, we had a blast and won some new fans for Men’s Roller Derby (as they told us after the game).

2016 is not over, yet

 

Friends, SGMRD have been quiet but not lazy in the last months.

Most of us have been participating in the Mens Roller Derby World Cup “MRDWC” in Calgary this summer where Team Germany finished 14th. We’ll publish a little report later.

Although the year is rapidly coming to an end, christmas is near and gingerbread is already all over the place, we’re not finished, yet.

We have something coming up on December, 10th.

SGMRD on Tour

Last weekend, five of the SGMRD players packed their bags to train and play some derby.

Our “Mahatma Bronson #3” spent his time in Milano, Italy at the “SKIR 2016”, the four of “Duke Jukem #23, Jam Pain #11, Lukomotive #17 and Steißkerl #999 took the long road to Bruges, Belgium to participate at the amazing Derby Revolution 2016.

SGMRD goes Derby Revolution 2016 in Bruges

We spent 4 days packed with skating classes, derby strategy, scrimmages and theory classes to widen our view and sharpen our edges.
High class international coaches  (full list here) filled their training sessions with inspiring, challenging and sweaty drills.

The vast number and variety of offered classes gave each of us the opportunity to satisfy his own interests, be it as a skater or coach, on a technical or strategic level or by spending time with nice people from all across Roller Derby Europe.

Some things that need to be said:

We’d like to thank all coaches for their input and working all 4 days constantly to help improve European Roller derby.
Thank you Missy Rascal for showing us edges that we never knew existed.
Thank you Christy Demons for giving us watery eyes admiring your quick feet.
Thank you Mick Swagger for bringing us the latest strategies and the coolest session names.
Thank you Laci Knight for giving us insight in fitness aspects and for your first ramp drop-in with Lukomotive.
Thank you Shaina Serelson for reminding us, that forward blocking still exists and is tremendously powerful.
Thank you Tony Muse for your energetic training sessions, “douchebag moves” and for emphasising that backwards blocking is an awesome tool, but not if it is your only tool.
And Thank you to all other coaches, supporters and helping hands.

Finally, a big shout-out to what seemed to be half of the German Derby community we were able to meet (again).
